If you are blessed with a porch, why not think of it as another room in your house and decorate the heck out of it? That’s what my sister has done with the back porch of her new house in the country. At a whopping fifty feet long and with gorgeous views, it is arguably the best part of the whole house.
She has set up two different eating areas, one at each end. This one can be accessed from the French doors in her dining room. She painted some old chairs in Annie Sloan’s Paris Gray and recovered the seats in an outdoor fabric.
She updated a hard rock maple table that she’s had since the 70’s with Annie Sloan’s Florence.
A media cabinet that was once used in a bedroom provides storage for gardening supplies. She painted this piece in City Scapes by Sherwin Williams and dry brushed it with Annie Sloan’s Duck Egg and Old White. All the painted furniture was sealed with General Finishes high performance topcoat.
At the other end of the porch, outside the french doors that lead into the master bedroom, is a wrought iron table and chairs.
A baker’s rack that used to sit in the kitchen at her old house now anchors one end of the porch and showcases her succulents and other plants.
The most recent addition to the porch is these two rockers from Sam’s Club. They also come in white, but she chose black to contrast with all the white of the porch walls, doors, and columns. They are wider than most rockers and very comfortable.
My favorite item on the entire porch is this old school desk that our daddy gave her years ago.
In my book, there’s no better spot to spend time with family than a back porch.
