A New Dining Room in the Works

After six years in their first house, my daughter and son-in-law are moving on to the next. It’s an exciting time, a tad bittersweet, and a little (ok, a lot) stressful.  Moving is bad enough; moving twice really stinks.  Fortunately, I have lots of room in my garage and shop to store much of their stuff for a few weeks until the second move happens.

The new house has a lot more space and something they weren’t really expecting to have or thinking they even needed–a formal dining room. I mean, who really does need a formal dining room these days?

The new house has one, though, and it will come in handy for entertaining big groups which they are sure to do more often in a bigger home.

So plans are in the works, and we are starting with this lovely room from  Savvy Southern Style as our inspiration.  Is this gorgeous or what?So long to the darker walls and cream china cabinet in their last house…

Hello to some new blue paint on that china cabinet–maybe Aubusson Blue?

Chalk Paint® - Aubusson BlueHello to a bigger table– once we find one–and to some new chairs that I recently finished.

You can go to Hooray for Family to read about that project, but here’s a quick before and after.

The plan is to use the end chairs and two of the others in the new house’s formal dining room with a bench they already have.  The remaining two chairs will work nicely in the breakfast room with possibly another bench my son-in-law can build.

That’s the direction we are thinking of going, for now anyway.  We could change our minds. It wouldn’t be the first time.  I’m just thrilled that my daughter wants to incorporate some blue and white in her new home because I’ve loved that combination for as long as I can remember and used it in my own house for years.

Looks like the apple didn’t fall from the decorating tree. I am her mama, after all.
